Ok, so with the new website, (relatively) new logo and new camera (well, new since my last business card), I am doing a revamp of my business card and was hoping to get some help from all of you. On the right hand side, you will see six different shots of Pittsburgh that I’ve selected for possible candidates. My current card features a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge, but I think for this round I am going to go with the ‘Burgh. If you have a second, you can click on each picture to view it large and then let me know which one you like the best. I value everyone’s input, so let me know if you have any other suggestions.
Next on the agenda today. Congrats to the Boston Bruins for winning their first Stanley Cup in almost 40 years. It was a very well deserved victory, with Tim Thomas, the Boston netminder, playing lights out goaltending in winning the Conn Smythe for MVP of the playoffs.

On to today’s post. It has been absolutely beautiful here in Pittsburgh for the past three weeks or so, with maybe a day of clouds here and there. The next couples days, however, are looking pretty ugly, with rain forecasted for most of them, I thought I would play along with my post. I took this one a few months back on a photowalk with Mike Theaterwiz Criswell. We were a little concerned earlier in the day that the clouds would hamper the day in terms of shooting, but then they started to get some nice textures, and the HDR just added to the drama. This is a view from the North Shore, on a boardwalk that at the time was completely flooded by all the rain we had had. The immediate foreground is completely underwater, with the planks from the boardwalk being visible underneath.
This is a seven shot HDR processed with HDR Efex with further edits in Photoshop. There was a slight halo over the skyline and bridge, so I used the -2 exposure to mask that in. I added a Tonal Contrast filter to the entire image (I normally don’t apply it to the sky, but in this case I was going for a more ominous look) as well as a yellow curves adjustment layer for the bridge. I desaturated all tones other than yellow, added some a Progressive Sharpening filter in onOne and finally some film grain.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to vote. Catch you all tomorrow.
Oh P.S. Lovin’ the fisheye. Will post some stuff soon, just been busy shooting with it.

Congrats on the fisheye and your overall progress, Dave. Things seem to be moving along nicely for you.
I like the Bridges and Reflections image in the sidebar most. They are all very nice but that one just stands out for me.
Today’s image looks fantastic. Lots of drama and nicely processed. Love the POV on this.

Yes, congratulations to the Bruins!
I’m a canuck (Canadian!) but feel that Boston out-played Vancouver in most of the seven game series. And Tim Thomas…….the oldest to win the Conn Smythe!
Oh, and very much appreciate your website and quality images! Thanks:)
Really dramatic sky and wonderful comp Dave! Well done!
great shot Dave, love that sky man!!
Love the sky, and the overall shot. Congrats on the fisheye and I cannot wait to see what you are capturing with it.
Grats on the win!
Oh and why settle for only one design? Check out this company: Moo Business Cards – http://us.moo.com You can get packs and have a different image on every single card if you want! I personally like bridges and reflections if you must choose one. From a design standpoint it looks like it will print better.
As far as today’s image. Epic clouds! Nice processing too.
Great HDR. The clouds, bridge, water, and planks look fantastic. Very well done! What camera do you use?? I am debating buying a D300 but my D90 and D7000 are doing a fine job thus far… Recommendation? BTW, i love the poll on the right – I think i’m going to steal that idea for one of my own little projects!
I love the 3rd image for your business card, my friend. The shot you’ve posted today is SPECTACULAR. I love the sky there, how absolutely dramatic! Great details to take in, this picture totally rewards the viewer who spends some time here…
That’s an epic photo, great job!
Thanks a lot Toad!
Thanks dude!
Thanks a lot Adam!
Thank you Aaron!
I can’t wait to get out shooting! Tonight! Thanks for stopping by Chris!
Sweet shot Dave!
Yep, congrats to the Bruins! I was rooting for the Canucks, as they are the closet hockey team to Seattle! Just a shame what some of the Canuck fans did to the beautiful city of Vancouver!
Congrats on the new lens and I had to vote. I like the bridge and reflection but felt the partly cloudy day with the whole of the downtown area would look fantastic on your business card!
Glad everything is going well for you! Have a great weekend!
I voted. Uh oh, I don’t think my choice is gonna be the winner. =)
Great image Dave – love the warm tones!
Awesome shot! Love the grunginess of this shot!
Looks like a great set of clouds to photograph!
Nice one, Dave. I love the grungy, high contrast feel of this shot.
Great shot in the post and as for the business card i like the second one down the bridge and the reflection
I really like this one. Photos that have this glowing look to them are my favorite.
Awesome. You have some lovely work!
