Since yesterday I featured the incredibly cute Riley in my blog post, I thought that today I would go to the complete other end of the spectrum. This was the second shoot that I did on Saturday, a band called Act of Pardon at Peter’s Pub on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland. We heard covers from Tom Petty, Sublime, Skynyrd and others throughout the night; they definitely rocked the place and it was one hell of a show.
I will say this though. I was a little nervous going into the show, having never shot anything like this before. I mean, I knew technically what I had to do to get the shots, but I had never been to the venue (at least not when a band was playing), I wasn’t sure about the lighting, how crowded it was going to be, etc. It took me a few songs to really get into the swing of things, and once I did, I had a blast. The band, like I said, was awesome, really cool guys who played to the camera at times to help me get the shot. Switched lenses a bunch of times, shooting with everything I had, the 16-35 f4, the 50 f1.4 and even the 70-200 f2.8. Definitely can’t wait for the next show, as this was some of the most fun I’ve ever had taking pictures. All of these shots were processed with CS5 and onOne PhotoTools.

Should be back to the HDRs tomorrow. I do have enough of them to post with all my recent photographic adventures. I’ll have even more in a few weeks, as I leave for New York in 9 days.
Thanks for stopping by everyone. Catch you tomorrow.

Dave, these are great! With mixed, harsh light, I imagine shooting concert type photos is a bit challenging. You did very well in my opinion!
These are really good Dave. I like all the motion you caught while people were playing, and the colors from the lights are great. Wonderful work!
Nice job! This does seem really difficult with the mixed light.
Great photos, man.
These really capture the moments. You did a fine job getting these.
I like new challenges but you do tend to worry a bit about how things will turn out.
These are really good, dude! Love that first black and white
That first shot is my fav, awesome. The rest of the set is great as well.
as good as any concert posters I have seen
great set of shots Dave! I have never tried that either, and it looks hard, so well done my friend!
AWESOME execution here Dave! LOVE this series!! I love how you managed to capture a sense of motion as well as crisp details in such tough lighting conditions! Masterful work here, my friend!

Great set Dave!!
Nice series Dave, well done
The light is superb in the first shot and you really nailed all the other ones too! Love how you captured their expressions and even the motion while playing (and you didn’t forget about the drummer
…)
