Today we’ll step away from New York for a second and head back home to Pittsburgh. If you follow my blog regularly, you know that a few weeks back a couple friends (Theaterwiz and Pete Talke) came in town to do some shooting. We got up fairly early in the morning for most people’s standards and were out shooting by a little after five. One of the spots we wanted to hit was the North Shore of Pittsburgh in the morning, a place that I had previously been, but a great place to photograph again. When we originally got going, there was a steady rain, and it wasn’t looking too good to have a successful sunrise shoot, but the rain held off and the clouds ending being just as good of a backdrop for the city as the sunrise would have. This is a view of the Clemente Bridge and you can even see Pete down in front grabbing his brackets.
Every once in a while I process an HDR in Photomatix and don’t really need to do a whole lot of work on it. This is one of those. After I processed the 7 exposures, I added a very slight S Curve, a Pro Contrast filter at 30% and a Tonal Contrast filter at 25%. That’s it. No masking, no color adjustments, just all kinds of blue hour goodness.
Happy Wednesday everyone, thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Really colorful shot, Dave. The POV and the reflective water make this awesome. I’ve always enjoyed getting up and out super early. The blue hour seldom disappoints.
Nice work, man.

I like the person standing by the river as they do a lot for putting just how vast this scene is. Nice work.

Beautiful! As difficult as it is for me (I LOVE my sleep) there is something magical about waking up in the wee hours and capturing something beautiful. I want to see some timelapse work!!
Ahh, my comment didn’t post! Anyways the jist of it was, I love walking up early for photography and sex, thats about the only things I will open my eyes for
Nice photo buddy, lov the colors. I wish my D7000 would bracket more than 3 without all the fudging before/during/after the shot. Great work.
So sick dude. That light in the water is awesome!
Love that light and the scene! Makes me want to go there so bad…

This is just magical Dave. I Love how the light reflections appear translucent in the water. Wonderfully creative perspective.
