Stealing the show

Well, I’m back from a great weekend in New York City, got in late last night and am dragging this morning at work, but it was all worth it.  Snapped about 1,800 pictures and I’ll spend the next couple of days going through them and finding my favorites.  I was able to hit most of the areas that I wanted to, some new, some old but with a fresh look, and all in all, I am really pleased with the shows that I got.  I spent some time in Hoboken, had dinner with the family, hit up the town with my brother, met up with fellow photog Mark Garbowski for some shots, walked somewhere around 50 miles, got lost a few times, , saw naked (yes, 100%) body painting in Times Square, acquired a ton of blisters, but the ends definitely justified the means.

I don’t normally like to start off series with one of my favorite shots, but this time I will.  This view, for me, is one of the best in New York and really steals the show.  I’ve been down at South Street Seaport before, a few years back, and got this shot then with my D40X.  Ever since I got my D700 last year I’ve itching for another crack at it and made it back on Friday night.  It wasn’t too crowded down on the pier, just a few fishermen and some people taking in the view, so I stuck around for a while and got a few shots, this being my favorite.

Didn’t really need to do a lot on the processing here, as it the shot speaks for itself.  This is a seven exposure HDR processed in Photomatix and then shipped off to CS5 for the edits.  I desaturated the overall tones as well as the reds, and added a Color Cast removal in Color Efex.  Through on an S Curve to increase the contrast and a Clarity filter onOne and that’s it.

A TON more shots to come, so make sure to stick around.
