Bright Times

As I promised yesterday, back to the HDRs today.  Thanks for all the feedback and comments on the videos…I will definitely be trying more in the future.

Today we head back to Manhattan and into Times Square, as I’ve said before one of my favorite places to be.  So much activity, sounds, colors, excitement, it certainly is alive.  I realized that I hadn’t posted any day time shots of the area yet, and put together a few last night.  Both shots today were taken looking down towards lower Manhattan, with the one above being taken from the street level and the one below taken from the grandstand that is in the middle of Times Square.

I started off processing both of these as my standard HDRs, with both images being comprised of seven handheld shots.  I tonemapped the 0 EV for both images to mask in all the movement of the people and vehicles in the bottom of the frames.  I also did a little bit of mask around the builds to get rid of some of the halos, as these were taken early in the morning and are pretty high contrast scenes.  I applied my same saved filters for both images in onOne PhotoTools (Omaha Beach, Golden Hour Enhancer, Turbo Boost and Dreamland) as well as Tonal Contrast filters to everything except the skies.  That was it for the first shot.  I then applied the tilt shift effect to the second shot and increased overall saturation and vibrance to give it more of a miniaturized effect.

That wraps it up for today, see you all tomorrow.

Love that 2nd shot of Times Square. That’s totally awesome, man. Hard to be the tilt-shift action of that one. Great processing, Dave.

Great colour in these images, Dave! I had a terrible time getting a decent shot in Times Square. I must try again on my next visit since none of my attempts last time are worth showing.
