So I know that every once in a while I say that I like to switch it up here at HDR Exposed and step out of my comfort zone with regards to my photography. Well, today I am really switching it up and posting something that I’ve never posted before: a video. Inspired by Chris Nitz’s review of the new iPhone time lapse app OSnap, I went out and downloaded it and am thoroughly impressed. I haven’t even tried a time lapse with my D700, much less my iPhone but the results came out great.
It’s a pretty intuitive little app. Very simple, but not so simple that it doesn’t really get the job done. You just fire it up, pick out your settings (resolution, interval, landscape/portrait, etc), set the phone down and hit record; the phone does the rest. It will take as many shots as you specify, or until you hit stop. As soon as the shots are done being captured, you simply hit “Play” and your time lapse generates at the FPS you set (this is easily changed during playback by simply hitting the faster or slower arrows). It does take a while to actually save the video, but once that is done, you can export it to your Camera Roll and have a nice simple time lapse.
This first one is from sunrise, of which I have a great view from my window. I know, I know, the horizon is VERY crooked, but I had to angle the phone against the window and some binders to get it to stay propped up.
This one is from early afternoon, as the rain and clouds moved it. Thought it was pretty cool how the clouds are moving in a completely different direction from the morning.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed these two videos. It will probably be a while before I post another one, but I couldn’t let these go unshared. Back to the HDRs tomorrow. See you then.

Good stuff Dave. I actually like the angle in the first video – I think it adds a unique feel to it!

Wow, I never woulda thought…. With an iPhone!? That is pretty cool. As you know, I have dabbled a bit with Time-lapse, and this just seems so easy. it is such a pain in the ass on my D7000, this is just plug and play kinda stuff. really cool vids, thanks for sharing.
