Gridiron action

So today we hang around Penn State and specifically the Penn State/Purdue football game here at HDR Exposed.  I’ve never had a chance to photograph football, at least not with my D700, and I’ll tell you what, that is something that I could get used to.  Well, sports photography in general is something that I could get used to.  Being able to capture the fast paced action, the momentum changing plays, the pivots moments of games all are just so appealing.  Ahh, to dream.

Anyway, Penn State was victorious 23-18 in their homecoming contest and here is a collection of shots, both HDR and live action from the game (Penn State is in blue and white).  The first shot above was taken from our original seats at the beginning of the game.  (At half time we moved down to the lower student section.)

Chaz Powell on the kickoff return

Purder Boilermaker’s Ralph Bolden leaping the Penn State defense for a touchdown

Justin Brown one handed catch

The famous Penn State Blue Band

Beaver Stadium from the 50 yard line

This was a crazy interception.  It bounced off the Penn State receiver Bill Belton, then off his leg as he fell tot he ground, then right to the Purdue player.

I thought that it was pretty cool how you could see all the shadows of the dance team as they all jumped in unison.

Nate Stupar’s (in air with the ball) interception all but sealed the Penn State win

The sun was setting perfectly while we were tailgating after the game

Thanks for stopping by today everyone.  See you tomorrow.

Love that top image Dave. With the people in the foreground you get such a great sense of scale in the shot.

Cool set here man. I really like that last shot with the flare. Really brings home that “after the game” feel.

Dude, that last shot is fantastic. Great series! The action shots are superb! What were you shooting with??? I just picked up a 28-300 and boy does that have some reach. Shot the city of Pozzuoli from my balcony last night and was blown away at the sharpness. Very cool series Dave!!

Wow, man. What a great series of action shots. That one-handed grab is awesome and the cheerleaders is a really cool shot as well. Excellent work, Dave.

I actually watched the game and enjoyed it, as well as a few cold ones. :-)
