Stockyard roundup

Good morning everyone and I hope that you all enjoyed your weekend!

So I’ve had my website for a little over six months now and I’ve been thinking lately that it is time for a change.  This was a great jumping off point for getting my own domain and taking blogging much more seriously, but I feel like I just need to take it another step.  With the holidays approaching and quite a few use-them-or-lose-them vacation days in the bank, I should have all the time that I need over the next few weeks to make some major upgrades to the site.  Not promising a date right now, but it will definitely be sooner rather than later.

Today, as promised, we head out of Arlington and into the Stockyards of Fort Worth, a quick twenty minute ride from where we were staying by Cowboys Stadium.  Located just north of the city of Forth Worth, this area was the most like the Texas that you see portrayed in movies and TV, with big belt buckles, cowboy hats, honky tonks and cattle drives right down the middle of the street.  Let me say this: we loved it.  It’s about a three block area with all different shops, restaurants and places that we just fun to meander in and out of.  With no open container law, you were free to mosey around, beer in hand and take it all in.

There was the Stockyards Hotel, home of the “famous” buffalo butt beer (which we did not try) that had saddles for the seats at the bar.  Not sure how long I would be able to make it sitting on of them as I was drinking, but it did look pretty cool.

There was also the Love Shack, a little bar/restaurant that had a stand on the outside to buy drinks from without even having to go inside.  Genius.  They also featured a band on the weekends, which you can see in the back of the shot.

At the end of the Stockyards was Stockyard Station, a building that used to house the hog and sheep pens that is now converted into a plethora of different eateries and shops.

For the processing…well…a lot of different techniques, masking, filters and adjustments went into these, and it would be a few pages to walk through them all.  As always, if you have any questions, just shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks for stopping by everyone.  See y’all tomorrow.

Great series of images Dave. All wonderfully processed. You bring back memories of visiting there in the 1980′s. Really had a lot of fun there. Did you ride any of the mechanical bulls?

Awesome man! I love em all. I have also started looking at changing things around with my site. I would recommend (if you havent already done so) emailing the companies you use the most for photograph stuff (NIK, B&H, Amazon, SmugMug, etc) to try and get in their affiliate programs. Also, start entering your stuff in to contests! You have some amazing shots and a style which is truly unique. If you have already started doing this, or are going a different direction, just ignore this. Just trying to help!

Awesome set Dave! I’ve been considering moving away from my current theme as well, maybe something a little more simple. Can’t wait to see what you find.

Great job Dave! I had to travel to Dallas a number of years ago and ended up finding this place in Fort Worth one weekend. You brought back a lot of memories.
