Today I wrap up my series of shots by the Civic Arena, at least for this week! I really everyone sticking with me through these posts because, like I said a few days back, I really only get one shot at capturing the Arena in its current state and I want to document it the best I can. The shot above is one of my favorites that I took, which is a view through the covering over the chain link fence that surrounds the Igloo. In the foreground you can see the remnants of the building, strewn about in mangled piles of steel.

This view is of the bottom of the arena, taken from across the street. I tried ti get closer to the fence, but even with my tripod fully extended, I wasn’t able to see over the fence. On the sign in front, you can make out the faded words “Mellon Arena”, which the building was called for the last few years of its use.

Finally, we have one more view from the top parking lot looking down on the whole area. With the empty parking lots, it looks pretty barren and a little eerie.
Thanks for swing by today everyone. See you all tomorrow!

It’s been real neat to see the demolition Dave. It’s always sad to see these structures go by the wayside.
More cool deconstructionism, Dave. Nice job!
Cool demo, Dave. Really fascinating to see the different phases of this tear down.
you get the best clouds in the Burgh Dave! nice series of shots!
I so wanna stick some dynamite in that rubble and blow it up. That would be so much fun.
Great shots Dave. Not sure what’s sadder this building coming down or this series ending.
the title is well picked
This has been a great series, Dave.
Too bad it’s coming to an end, both the series and the iconic Igloo.
Nice work!
Man, they are tearing that down fast!! Awesome that you are able to capture all of this. Nice work Dave.
More great shots of this icon Dave!
