Good morning everyone and happy Friday!
For today we head back up to the Steel Building for a slightly different take on a bird’s eye view of Pittsburgh. I’ve showcased this view a couple of times only the last few months and while the view is similar, it’s a bit different.

Both of these are HDR panoramas, with the first one above being from the 64th floor. You’ll notice first off that the entire picture is distorted; well, that’s because it is only a two image vertorama. I wanted to give this view because it offers a small glimpse closer to the street than really any of the other views that I’ve shared. That is the one thing that I did not think about doing when I was up that high: photography straight down. The building you see straight in front is the Gulf Tower and if you look closely at the top, you can see rings of grass around the top floors. Apparently, you can even see people out there mini golfing from time to time!

The next shot is actually from the roof of the Steel Building and a view that because one of the most popular that I’d ever posted on Facebook. The previous shot was just of the point, but this is a six image panorama stretching all the way from the edge of the Duquesne Campus on the left to the North Shore, PNC Park and the Andy Warhol Bring on the right. You can even see the rusted out top and some of the beams of the Steel Building in the bottom of the frame. Heights don’t really bother me and I was standing on the rail leaning over as far as I could, but I still managed to capture some of the building. I don’t really mind, as Pittsburgh is nicknamed the Steel City, I think that this is appropriate!
Thanks for stopping by today everyone! I hope that you all enjoy your weekend!

Really interesting take on the first image Dave – Kind of like that distortion! Great views!
Dig that distortion on the first shot. It feels like I’m starting at the edge of the world!
Really cool shot with the vertorama Dave. I just watched a video on shooting these and there you are posting one. Awesome dude.
Great shots, Dave. The first is really exceptional. That distortion is perfect for the warm to cool tonal shift. Nice job!
Dig that first shot Dave!
